The rugs produced by the Ziegler firm in Sultanabad at the end of the 19th century carried this heritage to the European market; today, Afghan weavers continue the same tradition in workshops in Mazar-i-Sharif. For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent uneven color changes (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.
