Paglia Series 80% New Zealand Wool Soumak Knot Handwoven Living Room Rug – Blue-Grey Striped

The Paglia Series Handwoven Rug is a collection woven from a blend of 80% New Zealand wool and 20% cotton using the traditional Soumak knot technique. The natural softness of New Zealand wool combines with the durable, textured surface of the Soumak technique to create a striking, natural aesthetic in spaces such as living rooms and lounges. With an 8 mm pile height and a weight of 3100 g/m², it provides a dense, balanced, and long-lasting structure. The natural temperature-regulating properties of wool keep you warm in winter while providing a cool feeling in summer. This variant features soft blue and grey horizontal stripes woven over a cream background, creating a natural and airy look.

What Is New Zealand Wool?

New Zealand wool is one of the natural wool types with the highest quality standards in the world. Sourced from sheep raised in New Zealand's clean pastures and favorable climate, this wool is known for its long, fine, and lustrous fibers. It is naturally soft, durable, moisture-balancing, and resistant to retaining dirt. Thanks to its natural lanolin content, it resists retaining unpleasant odors and is easy to clean. Wool fiber is also a natural temperature regulator; by absorbing and balancing moisture, it keeps you warm in winter and provides a cool, comfortable feeling in summer, making it an ideal indoor rug for year-round use. In the Paglia Series, 80% New Zealand wool is combined with a 20% cotton foundation yarn and the handwoven Soumak technique to create a surface that is both warm and soft, as well as strong and long-lasting.

What Is the Soumak Knot?

Soumak is one of the deeply rooted weaving techniques of Anatolia and the Caucasus, with a history spanning centuries. In this technique, pattern yarns are individually wrapped around the foundation (warp) yarns and interwoven, creating a dense, distinctive textured surface unlike that of knotted rugs. The wrapping method leaves the back of the rug as neat and clean as the front, making Soumak weaving durable and unique. The horizontal, basket-like appearance on the surface also comes from this special technique. In the Paglia Series, the Soumak technique is combined with a dense wool weave reaching an 8 mm thickness, offering both a natural, understated aesthetic and a soft, durable foundation. Thanks to traditional craftsmanship, each rug has its own unique texture and character.

  • New Zealand Wool Quality: Soft, natural, and long-lasting
  • Handcrafted: Each rug is unique and special

How Should New Zealand Wool Rugs Be Cleaned?

Paglia Series wool rugs should only be cleaned by professional rug-cleaning companies. Since natural wool fibers can be affected by water and excessive moisture, washing at home, machine washing, or wet cleaning is not recommended. For daily care, use a vacuum cleaner with low suction and gently dab any spills with a slightly damp cloth to preserve the rug's softness and natural texture for a long time.

What Sizes Does Paglia Come In?

This color is available in the following sizes:

  • 80 x 150 cm – small spaces, entryways
  • 140 x 200 cm – small to medium living rooms, bedrooms
  • 170 x 240 cm – medium to large living rooms

The Paglia Series is made from natural and sustainable New Zealand wool. The wool used comes from New Zealand's longstanding Wools of New Zealand tradition of quality and sustainability. Protect Your Rug’s Elegance
A careful care routine should be adopted to preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven, natural-fiber creations—pieces that add value to your living space—for generations to come.

Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid is spilled, timing is the most critical factor. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth, remove the liquid from the surface by gently blotting only—never rub. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural direction in which the fibers lie). Rubbing can damage the structure of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.

Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent uneven color changes (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.

Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Delicate materials such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For deep cleaning, seek assistance only from professional rug-care centers specializing in natural fibers.

Washing Instructions
The delicate pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their construction. (Only specific models clearly marked “Washable” in their names may be washed in household machines using a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
