The Story of This Rug
The Khorjin (saddlebag) design comes from a nomadic weaving tradition that stretches from the Caucasus to Anatolia and onward to eastern Iran. Each vertical stripe is adorned with small star, diamond, and rose motifs, as if bearing the signature of a different tribe. This composition, refined in Shirvan and Akstafa rugs, comes to life once more on plant-dyed wool in the “Chobi” reinterpretation carried on today in Afghan workshops.
Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug
- Each rug is made by a single team of weavers; no exact duplicate can be produced.
- 100% Ghazni sheep’s wool resists stains thanks to its natural lanolin and develops a patina over the years.
- Unlike synthetic dyes, natural root and bark dyes soften and mellow over time.
- The asymmetrical Persian knot creates a dense, durable weave.
- The natural washed finish gives the rug an antique texture and a soft feel.
Color and Pattern
Vertical stripes in golden yellow, indigo blue, ivory, walnut, and dark green are spaced evenly across a deep red field. Each stripe features tiny stars, roses, diamonds, and hooked motifs. A chain of palmettes and rosettes frames the composition in the border, while the corner pieces are accented in root red.
Care Recommendations
- Vacuum once a week using a low-suction setting and no brush.
- Blot stains gently with a damp white cloth; do not rub.
- Have it inspected by a professional rug cleaner every 3-4 years.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight and use a rug pad.
This rug arrives as a numbered original, a one-of-a-kind piece bearing the weaver’s signature.

Protect Their Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven, natural-fiber creations that bring value to your living space for generations, adopt a gentle care routine.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When spills occur, timing is critical. Use a clean, slightly damp cloth to lift the liquid from the surface by gently blotting only - never rub. Always work in the direction of the rug pile (the fibers’ natural lay). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent localized tonal differences (fading), we recommend changing your rug’s direction every 2 to 6 months.
The Expert Touch (Professional Cleaning)
Noble fibers such as handwoven TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For a thorough clean, seek help only from professional rug care centers specializing in natural fibers.

The exquisite pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their construction. (Only specific models explicitly labeled “Washable” in their name can be washed in home washing machines using a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
