The Shah Abbas design is the signature of Safavid court workshops, combining large palmettes, lotus medallions, and arabesque vines. In the 19th century, Ziegler & Co. reinterpreted this design in Sultanabad using soft earth tones. Afghan artisans continue the same tradition today with Ghazni wool and natural dyes; natural washing gives the composition a time-softened patina.
